Disaster Response Mission Stations

Disciples Volunteering typically is not among the earliest responders following a disaster; however, we aim to be among the last to leave. In a disaster, first responders are those who serve a critical, life-saving function. They include National Guard troops and trained personnel from fire and police departments. Organizations such as the American Red Cross and Salvation Army are on the scene soon after a disaster passes with the specific purpose of bringing stability (not normalcy) to impacted communities. Immediate needs are met through temporary shelters, short term food distribution programs, and triage medical clinics.

Communities often need weeks or months to transition from relief and response to long term recovery. During this time, Disciples Volunteering works by invitation with regions and local congregations, in partnership with Week of Compassion, seeking effective ecumenical collaboration and assisting in the development of local, long-term recovery organizations. Channeling financial resources and labor through these locally run organizations provides the best opportunity for a quality mission experience, maximizes stewardship of resources, and ensures that local folks are directing the aid and recovery in their own community.

Disciples Volunteering currently operates Mission Stations in several disaster affected communities, and calls for willing Servants to schedule your next Mission Trip to bring Hope and Healing to our Neighbors in:
