About

Disciples Volunteering, a program ministry of Disciples Home Missions, is financially supported by your Week of Compassion offerings and gifts to the Disciples Mission Fund. This blog covers the work of Disciples Volunteering to coordinate and connect Disciples for mission, with a special focus on the domestic ministry of Disaster Response. In the fall of 2005, Disciples congregations and members responded to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita with a tremendous outpouring of support. Among the millions affected by these two storms, the needs of Disciples families and congregations across the Gulf Coast were also high. In this convergence of great need and generous giving, the Disaster Response ministry was called into being.

Disciples Volunteering calls people of faith to Get Dirty for Jesus as we partner in mission with neighbors in need. The life that is transformed by engaging in mission just might be your own! Come, volunteer, and see what change God will begin in you.

Our hope is that in these pages you find information on Mission Stations, Partner Mission Sites, Special Projects and other Volunteer Opportunities – basically, everything you need to know so you can Get Dirty for Jesus! If you have any questions or are ready to sign up for your next mission, contact Brenda Tyler by e-mail or at 888-346-2631.

This may be a repeat but here goes anyway. We are Karen Lovelock’s parents. We have enjoyed the pictures she has sent courtesy of Mike Lee. This is a good way to keep up with Karen while she is gone from home. Love to Karen and all the crews in La. Jack and Jo-Ann

  4. Is the expression “Getting Dirty for Jesus” one we might use in our church? We are increasing our focus on service (“Serving God by serving others”) and this is the best phrase I’ve heard yet!

    • Absolutely! We’d love for you to credit the phrase to Disciples Volunteering as appropriate (and promote our mission with Disciples!), but truly feel free to use in any way appropriate.
